10 Movie Roles That Traumatised Actors
2. Sandra Peabody (The Last House On The Left)
Wes Craven's rape-revenge tale of The Last House On The Left is an endurance test as much as it is a movie. Turns out, this was true for Sandra Peabody's experience on set as well as on screen.
The exploitation horror film saw Peabody's role turn all too real when her co-stars decided to get the 'best' reaction they could, by threatening her off screen in increasingly frightening ways.
There's a section in the film's home-release commentary track that is uttered with little remorse for what those on set put Peabody through. Marc Sheffler, a co-star, states, "I took her over to the cliff, and I put her over the cliff and just grabbed her and said, 'If you don't get this f*cking scene right now, I'm going to drop you… and Wes'll shoot it, and we'll get a different scene, but it'll work because you'll be f*cking mangled."
Her other on-screen abuser then threatened to actually assault her instead of running through the mock performance they were supposed to. Peabody is now conspicuously absent when it comes to cast interviews about the film, likely due to the situations she was subjected to on set - all the men involved have admitted she was terrified and that they 'put her through hell'.
