In the years following the release of Seth Rogen and James Franco's riotous 2013 comedy This Is the End, rumours spread that Emma Watson originally had a larger role in the film and had "stormed off" after becoming uncomfortable with the cannibalistic themes in a scene involving Danny McBride and Channing Tatum.

Franco himself hinted that an actress who had a small role in the film departed amid an on-set conflict, and for years this was assumed to be Watson given the general lack of female roles in the movie.

Back in March, Seth Rogen finally cleared the air once and for all by confirming that it was indeed Watson who left the movie early, but that her grievances with the production were completely justified.

In a telling interview, Rogen clarified that the sequence in question was changed and improvised far beyond what Watson initially agreed to, and so due to her discomfort she decided to exit the shoot.

Rogen, who co-directed the film, also apologised for creating an unpleasant working environment for the actress and commended her for speaking up:

"I for sure should have communicated better and because I didn't, she was put in an uncomfortable position. She and I spoke on the night; it was overall a sh**ty situation and it must have been hard for her to say something and I'm very happy and impressed that she did. I was thrilled for the opportunity to work with her and would be thrilled to get that opportunity again. I am very sorry and disappointed it happened, and I wish I had done more to prevent it."
