10 Movie Scenes That Fans Tried To "Fix"
2. A "Modernised" Reshoot Of Vader Vs. Obi-Wan - Star Wars: A New Hope
The Edit
There has never been a more impressive or ambitious re-imagining of an iconic movie sequence than FixitinPost's take on the iconic lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan (Alec Guinness) and Darth Vader (David Prowse).
The VFX outfit decided to not simply re-cut the sequence, but spent two-and-a-half years shooting new footage to be integrated into the fight, while adding extensive CGI to blend the old and new footage together convincingly.
The overall goal was to create a lightsaber battle more consistent with the more frenetic recent lightsaber battles in the franchise, given how sluggish A New Hope's showdown seems by contemporary standards.
Did It Work?
With almost 14 million views on YouTube a mere six months after its release, with 635,000+ likes no less, the scene clearly went down a treat with the Star Wars fanbase.
Though the VFX are undeniably imperfect, it's nevertheless a stunningly committed effort to respectfully "update" the original scene, with the new footage laudably incorporated into the 1977 version.
It cannot and should not replace the original, of course, but as a tantalising alternative, it's superbly executed considering the price point, if not entirely aesthetically consistent with the rest of the movie.
