One of the most memorable sequences in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie is the moment where Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) uses his new powers to improbably catch Mary Jane's (Kirsten Dunst) lunch tray after she trips and flings it into the air.

Though most audiences would understandably assume that the scene was achieved through clever VFX or other visual trickery, Maguire actually performed the scene himself, with his hand gently glued to the underside of the tray, while the falling objects were fitted with magnets to help them also cling to the tray.

On the film's DVD commentary, VFX designer John Dykstra confirmed that the scene took Maguire 156 takes to pull off, and even with some practical help to make the feat slightly less challenging, it was all performed in-camera. Wow.
