The Scene

The sixth Fast and the Furious film concludes as so many of them do, with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) hosting a cook-out with his family, and in this case, Agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) swings by for a quick de-brief.

The Awkwardness

Almost immediately after the film's release, fans noted the bizarre staging and framing of the dialogue exchange between Dom and Hobbs, with each actor appearing to avoid typical eye contact with the other, culminating in the hysterical above shot, where the two barely seem as though they even showed up to shoot on the same day.

And though urban legends persist that the two had their separate takes digitally composited together, it does seem that the pair did indeed share the same physical space, even if the scene was blocked out to ensure as little direct interaction between the two as possible.

This would certainly vibe with everything we've heard since about Diesel and Johnson being at creative loggerheads over the course of these movies.

And honestly, if you're a director who just wants to get scenes in the can without having to deal with super-sized egos, allowing each of them to stare into the middle-distance while communicating with thin air is probably for the best.

Whatever actually happened, it clearly wasn't good, and you can practically taste the cringe-worthy tension while watching the scene.
