10 Movie Scenes That Would Never Have Been Shot Today

5. All Of Humanoids From The Deep

Famed producer Roger Corman has given many promising directors their start - from Joe Dante to Martin Scorsese. The reason why visionaries swarm to Corman's low-budget productions are largely due to the creative freedom he normally allows. His memoir is entitled How I Made 100 Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime. His ethos is simple: give the people what they want - nudity, violence, rinse, repeat. The plot is all yours.

Hummanoids from the Deep, however, is a curious entry in his oeuvre. According to director Barbara Peeters, she thought she had met Corman's standards of "kill all the men and rape all the women". Corman, however, felt her work was a little light on the fishman rape, the scenes lit "too shadowy" and re-shot the scenes with an uncredited Jimmy T. Murikami.

Nevertheless, Hummanoids is an uncomfortable watch for any generation, as a spawn of gillmen created by growth hormone experiments seek females to breed offspring, non-consentually. What's disappointing is how little fun there is to be had - it's just an ugly, crude film lacking any sense of humour. Peeters clearly had other issues she wanted to address like the rape of the ecosystem, but it's hard to talk about metaphorical rape when your producer just wants the real McCoy.
