10 Movie Scenes WAY More Disturbing Than Intended

With the recent release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, audiences have again been revisiting Raiders of the Lost Ark and re-evaluating the eyebrow-raising relationship between Indy (Harrison Ford) and Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).

Memorably, the estranged duo reconnect at a bar in Nepal, where Marion punches Indy in the face for walking out on her a decade prior.

She then tells him, "I was a child! I was in love! It was wrong and you knew it!," to which Indy coldly retorts, "You knew what you were doing."

Given that the movie's novelisation confirms that the pair started a relationship when Marion was 15 and Indy was 27, that's a major yikes for modern viewers in particular.

It's of course worth considering the context of Raiders' creation - in 1981 such age gaps weren't examined through as critical a lens as today, even if Spielberg's decision to treat the relationship as more cheeky than illegal is still a real head-scratcher.

Even accepting that Indy and Marion would've started their relationship in the very different time of the 1920s, that anyone thought introducing this ickiness into a Hollywood blockbuster was a good idea is just baffling.

By making Marion so young when she met Indy, poor Karen Allen has had to repeatedly discuss and defend the matter in interviews, surmising that she doesn't see Indy as a paedophile.
