Despite its star power in Anna Kendrick, Olivia Wilde and a host of other familiar faces, 2013's Drinking Buddies flew in under the radar for most, receiving a limited box office run no doubt due to its experimental tendencies, favouring an improvisational approach to dialogue and scenes

The film centres around two brewery co-workers, Luke (Jake Johnson) and Kate (Wilde) whose budding romance doesn't mesh well with the fact they both have partners outside of work in the form of Jill (Anna Kendrick) and Chris (Ron Livingston).

Needless to say, there is a lot of drinking throughout the film, but there are a few scenes in particular where what you see really is what you get. As Drinking Buddies was filmed at Chicago’s Revolution Brewery, beer was 'cheaper than water', and in a particular scene where Jill plays cards with Luke, Kendrick got sloshed for real. Not realising that they were no longer working with zero-alcohol beer, she kept putting them away as the scene went on, and was soon drunk enough to need a time out and some R&R.

Though Kendrick singles out that particular scene for on-set drinking, it seems to have been something that was taking place in full knowledge of the cast and crew throughout the shoot, with Kendrick, Wilde and others in on the action.
