10 Movie Scenes You Never Knew Used Body Doubles

One of the many memorable aspects of The Princess Bride is André the Giant's delightful performance as the gentle giant Fezzik, particularly his hilarious throwdown with "Dread Pirate Roberts" aka Westley (Cary Elwes).

Even if you're seen the movie dozens of times, you might've missed that André the Giant actually employed the use of a double during the fight scene.

As much as André's colossal size suggested he wouldn't need a stunt double, the wrestling legend actually had back surgery shortly before filming, and so was unable to perform much strenuous activity.

To complete the fight scene with Westley, Cary Elwes was placed on a series of ramps to give the effect of him clinging to André's back, while for wide shots a body double was used.

In one shot mid-way through the fight, you can even see the double wearing what appears to be a crude mask imitating André's face.
