5. Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Quite a few comic book heroes and villains have science experiments gone wrong to thank for their aliveness. The Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, the Lizard and the Green Goblin are just some of the hazards manifested on the list. However, there is one villain that stings real bad (no pun intended) and so deserves to represent the entire Marvel Universe on this list. No experiment has been as sad as the caring Doctor Octopus turned bad by science and restored good again. Admirable Doc Ock hopes that he will be able to use his four artificial intelligence robotic arms to master fusion power. However, as youve already guessed it, his experiment does not go according to plan and his wife is killed in the process whilst Spidey fails at softening the blow. Its difficult not to sympathise with Otto as he wallows in the grief of his wifes death. Not only that but now his tentacles are attached to his spine and they can control his mind. He doesnt fight with their mind games and lets them turn him into an even more ambitious scientist determined to complete his doomed experiment. What makes this all the more heart-breaking is his redemption at the end when he decides the greater good is more important than his own achievements. What Doc Ock taught us: two arms are better than six.
