10 Movie Sequel Recastings That Were TERRIBLE

6. Tommy Lee Jones - Harvey Dent (Batman Forever)

Terrible Movie Recastings
Warner Bros.

Following the success of Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, Warner Bros. hired director Joel Schumacher to keep the series going with a threequel titled Batman Forever.

The only hitch was the cast complications, which started when Michael Keaton dropped out the title role and was replaced by Val Kilmer, and continued when the studio dropped Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent and replaced him with Tommy Lee Jones.

Williams had appeared in the first of Burton's films as the righteous district attorney, and had stated his interest in reprising the role in a sequel further down the line. Although his performance promised big things for Two-Face, Jones was given the gig because Schumacher wanted to work with him.

In the end, this proved to be a fatal creative decision. Jones wasn't interested in the part, only taking it after a conversation with his son, and his performance doesn't end up being as menacing as it should have been.

Despite being a more quietly menacing threat than other larger-than-life Batman villains, Jones' Two-Face plays like an over-the-top Joker more than anything else, which is a shame given the talent involved.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
