The Scene

The very last scenes of District 9 confirm that Wikus is now fully transformed, but there's hope as fellow "prawn" Christopher promised to return to Earth with a cure for Wikus in three years time. Along with reinforcements.

What It Teased

A sequel that could have focused on all-out war as well as completing Wikus' story (and presumably freeing him from his transformation).

But...

Unfortunately, despite an impressive box office performance by District 9 and Neill Blomkamp's insistence that he wanted to make a sequel if it was successful enough, nothing has got off the ground yet. And the longer it goes, the less likely a sequel will actually make it into production.

Blomkamp also confirmed he hadn't even thought of a story, but hinted at the possibility of a prequel, which wouldn't solve the question of Wikus' fate either.
