10 Movie Sequel Teases That Went Absolutely Nowhere
5. National Treasure 2: Book Of Secrets
The Scene
At the end of Disney's sequel, the President asks Nic Cage's Benjamin Franklin Gates to turn to page 47 of the titular Book Of Secrets, which inspires the hero to say the information within is "life altering."
What It Teased
Ironically, after the first movie rejected a sequel-bait ending, the sequel that was inspired by its impressive box office return itself set up a third movie in the sequel. Presumably dealing with whatever was on Page 47 of the Book Of Secrets.
But...
Despite the fact that it made a lot of money at the box office and Disney registering URLs for a third and fourth National Treasure movies, Book Of Secrets didn't inspire a sequel. And though it looked like a story was already set up director Jon Turteltaub confirmed they were struggling to write a sequel that didn't just retread the same ground as the first two.
Since then it's moved closer to completion, but the last update suggested Disney wasn't happy with the story that had been turned in.
