10 Movie Sequel Teases That Went Absolutely Nowhere

The Scene

In the last moments of Barry Levinson's unfairly underrated Sherlock Holmes prequel, it's revealed that murderous villain Eh-Tar (Holmes' fencing instructor, Professor Rathe's alter-ego) survived the fall through the ice on the Thames that appeared to kill him. He's seen finally checking himself into an Alpine inn under the name "Moriarty."

What It Teased

Clearly, that Rathe/Eh Tar was going to return to Holmes' life in a major way as his greatest ever adversary.

But...

Unfortunately, the film's entertainment factor simply didn't translate into audience appreciation and it made just $19 million against an $18 million budget. That's not the kind of money that makes sequels happen.
