10 Movie Sequel Teases That Went Absolutely Nowhere
4. Eragon
The Scene
After the triumphant end to Eragon - in which the titular hero and his dragon defeat the villainous Durza, a minion of John Malkovich's real big bad, Galbatorix. Incensed by their victory, the furious villain slashes at a large map tapestry in his castle to reveal his own huge dragon, Shruikan.
What It Teased
An adaptation of the second book in the Inheritance Cycle series, basically: Eldest, which would have continued Eragon's story and would have included some dragon on dragon action.
But...
Sadly, movies about dragons are always a bit of a gamble, for some reason, and you can never tell what's going to stick with audiences. It's fair to say that Eragon definitely didn't manage it. It made SOME money, but thanks to a critical mauling and a tepid reaction from fans of the book and general audiences, the planned franchise was dead on arrival.
Considering the books didn't even go down particularly well, few people should have been surprised.
