10 Movie Sequels JUST Announced

From The Matrix 5 to a new Knives Out, here are the biggest sequels Hollywood has just revealed.

The movies may be struggling when it comes to the box office in 2024, but the show must gone, and there have been plenty of exciting sequels announced over the last couple of months. Whether it's a studio striking while the iron is hot off the back of a recently released outing, or returning to a story from decades ago, Hollywood is continuing its habit of returning to its hits - whether to recalibrate flagging franchises or continue a fresh winning streak.

This approach has seen plenty of criticism over the years but especially recently, with sequels, reboots and remakes dominating release windows to widely varying degrees of success and failure. However, some franchises are just meant to carry on, and for every eye-roll-worthy announcement or reveal from a Hollywood studio, there is also the occasional confirmation of a sequel that should get most movie lovers excited.

The movie calendar is busy, though, and it can be easy to lose track of even the biggest sequel announcement - of which 2024 has had plenty.

So, from breakout horror successes to some more surprising sequel reveals, here are the most notable movie follow-ups that have just been announced...

10. Five Nights At Freddy's 2

Recent years have seen the supposed video game movie curse become less and less relevant. Though it used to be that any adaptation of a video game would fail spectacularly, the likes of The Last of Us, Fallout, and even Detective Pikachu have done their parts of disproving the theory.

Five Nights at Freddy's continued this trend in 2023, as it ultimately became Blumhouse's highest-ever grossing movie with a reported worldwide intake of $297 million. This is incredibly impressive when you think of some of the iconic films the company has produced (see Paranormal Activity, Get Out, Halloween, and more).

Confirmation came in April that Five Nights at Freddy's would in fact be receiving a sequel, with a view for an Autumn 2025 release. This would be a nice, quick turnaround considering the first outing was only released in October 2023, capitalising on its success as quickly as possible.

It was reported last year that Matthew Lillard had signed on for a three-picture deal, of which the second is now currently in production. Whether or not a trilogy does ultimately come of it depends on the sequel's success, but given the first was such a hit, it would be safe to assume it'll happen.
