10 Movie Sequels JUST Announced

As typically befits a film with the popularity and influence of The Matrix, the Keanu Reeves led movie saw two sequels in 2003, before a gap of almost two decades and the return of the franchise in 2021. As far as legacy sequels go however, Matrix: Resurrections struggled.

Both critically and commercially, the fourth in the series fell below expectations, and for most this would spell certain doom. However, The Matrix would appear to be an exception to this, as a fifth outing has recently been confirmed with some key changes.

Any casting announcements are yet to be made, so there's currently no telling which, if any, of the previously established characters will be returning, but one thing that is for certain is a change in the director's chair for the first time in Matrix history.

While the first three outings were helmed by the Wachowskis, and the fourth by Lana Wachowski alone, it will be Drew Goddard to take the reigns this time, potentially signalling a fresh direction for the series.
