5. Kelly Malcolm - The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Spielberg has proved time and time again in his films that he is great director of child actors and also a brilliant commentator of father and son relationships. But in the Jurassic Park sequel, Ian Malcolm's paternity just turned out to be as clunky as dubious. Ian Malcolm changed drastically from the original Jurassic Park, from a wisecracking cynic to a rather dull and cowardly distant father, with cheesy lines like "mommy's very angry." The story behind why Ian's daughter, Kelly Malcolm, is African-American remains unexplained in the film. But what's even more mind-boggling is why she is not part of her school's gymnastics team if she's capable of impaling a velociraptor with a mortal high bar routine. No thanks, Steven Spielberg: we could have done without this character, thanks.
