10 Movie Sequels That Failed To Recapture The Magic
1. CaddyShack II
Caddyshack is widely regarded as one of the best comedies of all time. Chevy Chase is a joy to watch, the writing and directing are phenomenal, and everything combines to create a perfect storm.
Thanks to its success, its easy to see why everyone involved would want to try once more to catch lightning in a bottle, but the sequel is proof that lightning definitely doesn't strike twice. Chevy Chase reprises his role and Harold Ramis also takes on writing duties once again, but it's not enough to save Caddyshack II.
The choice to go for a PG rating hinders this sequel, and it feels like a watered down version of the original. The comedy is clumsy, and a lack of any depth in the material contributes to this, with newcomers to the project coming in at a disadvantage. The cast tries their best but they really aren't given much to work with.
The sequel failed to recoup its blown-up budget, and managed to pick up two Razzie awards. For those unaware, that is definitely not a good thing. It won the awards for Worst Supporting Actor, and Worst Original Song, while also being nominated for the dreaded Worst Picture.
