While the MCU has overall been a money making juggernaut for Disney and Marvel, the Thor franchise hasn't always been on solid ground. The first movie was reasonably good introduction to the character, though a little uneven in tone. The second movie has some bright spots but is generally regarded as the one of the worst MCU films.

Thankfully, Taika Waititi came along and directed the third Thor movie, Ragnarok. It was light-hearted, funny and gave the cast great material to work with. In particular, Cate Blanchett shone as the long-lost daughter of Odin, Hela. She was a vicious, malicious and overwhelmingly powerful villain that Thor could not defeat, even with the help of his Revengers.

Hela outdid the villains from the rest of the franchise by a country mile and was a big part of making that movie the success it was.
