10 Movie Sequels That Were 30 Years In The Making

Will Bill & Ted 3 "be excellent" to us all 30 years on?

Good things come to those who wait, or so the saying goes. If Hollywood's penchant for belated sequels is anything to go by, though, bad things also come to those who wait. Bad things like Zoolander 2, Dumb & Dumber 2 and Independence Day: Resurgence.

You'd think that any sequel that gets that level of extra preparation would come out extra good, but it's clearly not always the case. Most of the longest awaited sequels were awful cash-grabs by Disney as they sought to give new straight-to-DVD life to some of their oldest properties and they weren't exactly famous for their quality.

With a pair of iconic cinematic heroes about to hitch a ride through time in their phone-booth some 30 years after their last adventure, though, let's look at the film sequels that took around the same time to come out. Because perhasp 30 is the magic number?

Time Between: 32 years, 207 days

While there were obviously a whole set of Prequel trilogies, it took more than three decades for us to see a real continuation of the Skywalker Saga. And more importantly for some, this was the first opportunity to see a Star Wars film in thirty years that didn't have George Lucas all over it.

Was It Worth The Wait?

Well, there's a question. Despite all of the negativity around the new age of Star Wars from a certain, particularly vocal element of "fans" who now seem to want to see the franchise fail, it is a great addition to the Saga. The new characters are great, the story-telling is likewise and it opened this galaxy up to a whole new generation of fans. So maybe stop complaining boys.
