10 Movie Sequels With Massively Improved Rotten Tomatoes Scores

7. Annabelle (29%) To Annabelle: Creation (70%)

fast and furious fast five rotten tomatoes

Score Difference: 41%

After The Conjuring came out and was lauded for its slower, more methodical approach to creating scares, Annabelle came out the following year with a loud "f*ck that!" and opted for cheap jump scares and sudden loud noises instead.

Smartly, followup Annabelle: Creation agreed more with The Conjuring than its 2014 predecessor, choosing to craft unsettling, intense sequences that prolonged the tension, rather than relying on cheap shock value for some instant - yet hollow and disappointing - gratification.

Creation's isolated rural setting was also much more sinister than Annabelle's crowded suburban one, with every inch of its rickety old house being used to force characters into spooky situations. Critics agreed it was better in almost every way, and it deservedly earned a superior score.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
