10 Movie Sequels With The Most Shocking Drops In Quality
1. Caddyshack II
From Harold Ramis, 1980's Caddyshack is an all-timer comedy movie, featuring Chevy Chase at the heights of his powers and with magnificent supporting turns from, in particular, Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray.
To break Caddyshack down, it's nothing particularly earth-shattering. There's golf, there's teenage romance, and there's a problematic gopher - and it all works together wonderfully, creating a ridiculously daft, entertaining movie.
Sadly, 1988's Caddyshack II has nothing in common with its predecessor bar its golf course setting and an extremely minor appearance from Chase.
Labelling Caddyshack II a stinker would be a mammoth understatement, with the sequel being so bad that Ramis - who worked on an early draft of the story - pushed to have his name entirely removed from the follow-up. It's worth noting that early draft was abandoned and Ramis had no other involvement with the film, and all other key players had zero interest in returning to the fold. On top of that, the additions of Dan Aykroyd and Jackie Mason fell totally flat.
Caddyshack II is the epitome of a needless, soulless sequel that serves as nothing but a lazy cash-in, lacking the charm and laughs of the first film. Also, the Caddyshack II experience was so bad, director Allan Arkush had to enter therapy as a result.
