10 Movie Sequels With The Most Shocking Drops In Quality

2. Zoolander 2

Unfortunately, no amount of Blue Steel could make Zoolander 2 get anywhere close to matching the standard set by the first Zoolander picture.

With a 15-year gap between the release of both movies, there was no real demand for a Zoolander sequel. Like so many great comedies, Zoolander worked perfectly fine as a standalone film. Of course, also like so many great comedies, the urge was too strong to resist returning to the well with a second film.

For Zoolander 2, things just felt tired, rehashed, and more focussed on countless celebrity cameos than putting together any particularly engaging story. A comedy doesn't always have to have a deep and meaningful story - a film mentioned in the next entry proves that - but its jokes have to land, which is something Zoolander 2 has some problems.

What you're left with here, is a murder plot, a kidnap plot, Derek and Hansel falling out and reuniting again, a couple of jokes that raise a mild chuckle, and an excessive amount of celeb cameos for the sake of celeb cameos.
