John Carpetner's Halloween holds up magnificently to this very day and is one of the most influential, game-changing movies in horror history. For Halloween II, that's a fantastic, if not underappreciated, sequel that picks things up immediately after the events of its 1978 predecessor, and the vastly different Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a chilling, eerie tale that's thankfully been reevaluated in more recent years.

While Season of the Witch centred on the nefarious Silver Shamrock company and kept Michael Myers on the sidelines, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers brought the Shape back in a hugely impactful way, culminating in the jaw-dropping shot of Michael's young niece Jamie Lloyd having attempted to murder her foster mother.

The point being, that shocking end to Halloween 4 left the franchise in a great place, with anticipation high for where the next movie may take things now that Jamie had seemingly been corrupted by the same evil that resides in her murderous uncle.

Unfortunately, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers took all of that momentum and dumped it to one side, instead glossing over Jamie's attempted murder and evil urges, and making the kiddo a heroic mute. The Revenge of Michael Myers admittedly isn't as awful as Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, but the drop off from Halloween 4 to Halloween 5 is staggering.
