For some reason, many of the sequels that are announced well in advance turn out to be animated films. Case in point, Stone Age comedy The Croods' second helping is due for release in 2020, making it a busy year for Dreamworks.
The original, which arrived back in 2013, featured an all-star voice cast led by Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone, with Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman and Clark Duke also lending their vocals to the characters.
All of the above will be back for The Croods 2, while Leslie Mann has joined the franchise as the matriarchal head of a rival Prehistoric family.
Joel Crawford, who has previously worked in the art department of the Kung-Fu Panda movies, will make his feature-length directorial debut on the project.
