A potential sequel to The Accountant has been floating around for over five years. It was reported to be in the works as early as June 2017, but since then, very little movement has been made on the project.

Starring Ben Affleck as a maths wizard with high-functioning autism, the first film wasn't exactly a monster hit for Warner Bros., so it's not a total shocker that the sequel has been slow to roll out. Still, with a decent chunk of change at the box-office and plenty of storytelling opportunities to hand, The Accountant 2 is perfectly positioned to build upon the original's solid foundations.

In February 2022, producer Mark Williams revealed that the script was currently being worked on, and that he hoped to see the film come out "very soon".

Now, considering how long this film has been languishing in development hell, hoping for a 2023 release date might seem optimistic. But factoring in Williams' positive update, The Accountant 2 could easily be made in time for October 2023, allowing it to mirror the first film's release month.
