10 Movie Sequels You Probably Never Knew Existed
5. Road House 2: Last Call
Patrick Swayze's 1989 beat-'em-up romp is one of the greatest guilty pleasure movies ever made, with a cult following that has continued to mushroom throughout the almost-three decades since its release.
As such, there was a certain inevitability to a Road House sequel of some description. Alas, it came in the form of this feeble 2006 effort, another one that's to all intents and purposes a remake with only the most tenuous of narrative links to the original.
Johnathon Schaech plays Shane Tanner, a DEA agent and son of Swayze's Dalton, whose club-owner uncle is hospitalised after an attack by local criminals (headed up by Jake Busey, who seemingly has a weakness for direct-to-DVD sequels). This prompts Shane to follow in his late father's footsteps and clean things up at the club.
The whole 'son of Dalton' thing is a bit feeble, not helped by an underdeveloped subplot about the original hero having been murdered. Indeed, it might leave a bit of a bad taste considering Swayze died from cancer within three years of the sequel's release.
In 2015, it was reported that Ronda Rousey would take the lead in a Road House remake from director Nick Cassavetes, but the project failed to get off the ground.
