10 Movie Showdowns That Totally Sucked

1. Smith vs. Neo - The Matrix Revolutions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7li9SG7zebU After three epic films, it was time for the war over The Matrix to finally be settled. The stage was set, and it looked fantastic; Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) stood in the rain, hundreds of Agent Smiths looking on while the two duke it out for supremacy. Though the fight begins well, it soon descends into overt silliness with a troubling reliance on daft visual effects, making this battle seem more like an episode of Dragonball Z than anything else. The battle concludes with Smith attempting to assimilate Neo, but given that Neo has a direct line to the machine leader (a giant baby face made of machines), this allows it to send a pulse of energy through to Smith that causes him and every other Agent to explode. Neo's body, in a blatantly obvious Christ pose, is seemingly dead, and he is carried off for his code to be disseminated. Talk about a disappointment. Though the fight drags on for a good while, there's just nothing particularly exciting about it; it's all flashy but empty visual effects rather than thrilling stunt work. Given how strong the series began, it's a shame it had to go out on a whimper. What's your most disappointing final showdown? Let us know in the comments below.
