10 Movie Soundtracks Better Than The Film
5. Purple Rain
Prince was truly a one of a kind talent in the '80s. Releasing his first album when he was still in his teens, Prince had a full-proof plan for musical domination, with each record feeling like one step closer to the top of the mountain. The Purple One was already at the top of his game, but when it came time to hit the big screen, all bets were off.
Taken on its own, Purple Rain is a decent enough rock film, with a typical tale of Prince trying to find his place in the world through the power of rock and roll. The fact that it also happens to feature one of Prince's most solid studio efforts to date is what ends up taking the film to another level.
Though there are plenty of other Minneapolis legends present in the movie like Moris Day and the Time, Prince really is the star, with songs like "Let's Go Crazy" and "Darling Nikki" being some of the greatest tunes to come out of the '80s.
This is also the first time Prince gave credit to his band the Revolution, who blow each of these songs up to massive proportions on the title track and "I Would Die 4 U." Prince may have tried to recreate the film/album tie in with Parade a few years later, but given how right you got it the first time around, why mess with perfection?
