10 Movie Soundtracks Better Than The Film

6. Dazed and Confused

Disco may have been the big money maker during the '70s, but rock and roll was going through its golden age. After the '60s hippie generation bottomed out, rock got much more ragged, with songs that were based on heavy riffs and mountains of attitude. Dazed and Confused might not have come out during the '70s golden age, but this love letter to the stoned-out rockers had their music down to a science.

With each passing song, the film's soundtrack is a practical who's who of rock talent, with everyone from Black Sabbath to KISS to Alice Cooper sharing a spot. Even some of the oft-forgotten acts like Nazareth and Rick Derringer end up getting premiere spots, with "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo" and "Love Hurts" being some of the album's main highlights.

In the grand scheme of movie soundtracks, this album also doesn't get nearly enough credit for inspiring the more classic-rock-tinged sounds of something like Guardians of the Galaxy, to the point where both volumes of the Marvel franchise have included songs like "Cherry Bomb" and "Fox on the Run" from this very soundtrack.

The movie itself might be known only for the birth of Matthew McConaughey's "alright" phrase, but this best-of list is basically all of '70s rock condensed into a solid hour of music.
