10 Movie Soundtracks Better Than The Film
3. Batman Forever
Batman Forever tends to be looked at as the moment the Caped Crusader went too far. While Val Kilmer may have done a decent job in the cape and cowl, the arrival of Joel Schumacher saw the Bat picking up some bad habits, from dad-joke level puns to the nipples that for some reason needed to be on the Batsuit. There's a lot of weirdness behind this movie, and the soundtrack is no exception.
As opposed to the more campy nature of the film, this collection of songs is all over the map stylistically, with Nick Cave being put alongside Mazzy Star. However, where this album shines, it is absolutely astounding, with U2 turning in one of their greatest songs of the '90s on "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me" while also featuring entries from alt-rock royalty like Sunny Day Real Estate and PJ Harvey.
You also haven't lived until you've heard Seal's "Kiss From a Rose," which many people still don't realize came from a Batman film. There are a few weird moments where the music is featured in the film, but given the kooky nature of the Riddler, it kind of makes sense to have something like the Flaming Lips turn up. This Batman might be on the lower tier of Dark Knights onscreen, but for what it's worth, his mixtape is still pretty solid.
