10 Movie Soundtracks That Are Also Great Rock Albums
5. Grosse Point Blank
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aljlKYesT4Another soundtrack so popular that it spawned a sequel, Grosse Point Blank's accompanying album featured some of the best cuts from the movie, and included two tracks by seminal punk outfit The Clash - not surprising, since Joe Strummer just happened to score the film.
While it was an indie/underground lover's dream due to punk, ska, and indie rock tracks by bands like The Jam, The Specials, The Beat, and with tracks like Blister in the Sun from Violent Femmes (who, really, were a bit too big to really be considered Indie anymore) and Faith No More's We Care A Lot, the album seemed unlikely to catch on mainstream. However, the latter two acts, along with the presence of Pete Townsend and Guns 'N' Roses (with their Paul McCartney cover Live and Let Die) ensured that it appealed to a wide enough audience to be successful.
Blister in the Sun might just be the standout - just about the perfect tune for this film. Regardless, it's well worth a listen, and a worthy addition to any soundtrack collection. And if you want another, slightly later but still great soundtrack from another John Cusak movie, High Fidelity is up there.
