10 Movie Spinoffs Much Better Than The Franchise That Spawned Them

3. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Obviously the original Star Wars trilogy remains an incomparable and monumental achievement in Hollywood cinema, but ever since Disney assumed control of the franchise the continued adventures set in a galaxy far, far away have been fraught with difficulties and production issues.

Given the wildly different but equally divisive responses to both The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, the general feeling that The Force Awakens was a nostalgia-driven retread of the original movie and the fact that Solo remains a completely unnecessary origin story, Rogue One is far and away the best movie to come out of the Disney Era of Star Wars, and it isn't even close.

Building an entire movie from one line in A New Hope's opening crawl gave Rogue One more scope to tell a standalone story without having to rely too heavily on the franchise's storied past, while the status as a prequel sandwiched in between two trilogies also created a sense of closure and the tying up of all loose story threads, which is a rarity in today's blockbuster climate.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
