10 Movie Spinoffs Much Better Than The Franchise That Spawned Them
4. Bumblebee
It doesn't take a genius to do the math and figure out that there have been six Transformers movies, and the only one of them that was worth a damn was the one that didn't have Michael Bay behind the camera.
Bay's Transformers may have brought in billions at the box office, but they were almost offensively stupid and each new installment invariably turned out to be worse than the last. Travis Knight's spinoff showed what would happen if the mythology was treated with care and respect, with the focus placed on telling a story as opposed to seeing how many explosions and incomprehensible CGI nonsense you can fit on the screen at any given time.
Nostalgic without being pandering, character-driven and shot through with the Spielbergian sense of wonder that Bay's output was sorely lacking, it almost seems ironic that the best movie in the franchise brought in the lowest returns, meaning that we might never get a Bumblebee sequel following the recent news that the Transformers are set for the reboot treatment.
