The production of the second - and second worst - old man action ensemble was rife with accidents and near-misses. Sylvester Stallone broke his neck and was punched so hard by Dolph Lundgren (who presumably mumbled "I must crush you" under his breath) that he ended up in hospital, and Steve Austin nearly lost a leg when an explosion went off right next to his foot. He was only saved by the bag he was carrying that shielded the blast - that's what you get for breaking Sly's neck. But even worse than those moments, the film also led to the death of one stuntman and the serious injury of another. While filming one of the countless explosion sequences, on an inflatable boat in Bulgaria, stuntman Kun Liu - who the film was dedicated to - was killed, while Nuo Sun - who was standing in for Jet Li - was seriously injured. Sylvester Stallone confessed himself deeply saddened by the accident:
"The stunt team took it very, very hard and shut down for quite a while. It's happened twice before on films I've been on and it's never easy."
Both Sun and Kun Liu's parents sued the film studio for the accident, claiming that the stunt was not properly set up.
