For one stuntman working on 1969 action movie Shark! one of the most enduring horrors of the sea became a grim reality when he was attacked and killed on the set of the Burt Reynolds-led movie. The stuntman was killed on camera by a shark that was supposed to have been sedated, but which unfortunately was all too alert. Somewhat despicably the film, an action adventure film about treasure hunters, which up to that point had been called Caine after the main character (played by Reynolds) was then retitled as Shark! and the production company -Troma Entertainment - decided to use the death as a means to promote their film. Having been in dispute with his producers over other major issues, director Sam Fuller quit the production, presumably disgusted with the fact that the movie poster billed the accident higher than any of the actors. When Fuller finally saw the version of his movie that hit cinemas, he demanded that his name be taken off it, as it had been utterly butchered, but the producers inevitably refused, and more than 30 years later the film was re-released as Man-Eater. A similar fate occurred on the set of The Last Lion (1972) when a lion attacked and killed sound technician James Chapman during production.
