8. The Horse Entrance - The Return Of The Musketeers
Very much the least thrilling or even particularly exerting stunt on this list was no less fatal for British veteran actor Roy Kinnear - probably most famous as the father of Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory - on the set of Superman II and III director Richard Lester's swash-buckling Musketeers sequel. The film was shot in Spain, which unfortunately led to a miscommunication with the native crew, who misunderstood the instructions of director Lester and washed down the cobblestone street prior to filming of the fateful scene. Naturally, the stones became wet and slippy, and as Kinnear and the other cast members made their entrance into the shot, his horse slipped and threw Kinnear off, breaking his pelvis. At the age of just 54, Kinnear died of a heart attack while receiving treatment for the injury in a Spanish hopsital the following day, prompting his family to demand an official investigation into this medical care and leading directly to Richard Lester's decision to quit the film industry.
