10 Movie Threequels That Redeemed Their Franchise
6. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
If the original Twilight because famous for a rainy town called Forks, R-Patz and milk-sparkly skin to swoon over the sequel is synonymous with almost turning this burgeoning vampire franchise to dust. Despite flinging werewolves into the mix, New Moon was a smug, bloated sequel which spent hella time focusing on Taylor Lautner’s wolf-whistle-y physic and not much on developing character or story. There was also a lot of nonsense going on with Michael Sheen in Italy, too.
Luckily the film was a box office beast, enabling Stephenie Myer’s third and best book in the series to be green lit. The result was the closest the series has got to a bona fide horror flick, with vampires and werewolves uniting in a battle against Bryce Dallas Howard's crew of speedy, ‘newborn’ blood suckers. This culminates in a snowy final battle that actually feels like lives are at stake.
Along with this pulsating story and action the relationship between Edward and Bella heats up a bit with Lautner’s Jacob entering into the love triangle, balancing out the drama nicely with all the supernatural scrapping. This is the best Twilight ever got.
