10 Movie Titles With Ridiculous German Translations

7. Dodgeball

German Title: Voll Auf Die Nüsse

English Translation: Straight In The Balls

DodgeBall is by no means the best literary work of art as far as movies go but it sure is the quintessential physical comedy flick right down to the hammed up antics performed by the likes of Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.

The latter of which contends in the national Dodgeball tournament for the prize money of 50,000 dollars in order to keep his gym. His opponent is an over-excited fitness guru played by Ben Stiller and together they give Dodgeball its long-deserved cinematic tribute.

Its evident that the German translators hit a pitfall with this one and quite understandably, since the original title refers a sport that doesn't mean much to the German audience. The only equivalent to Dodgeball is something known as " Völkerball" - but even that doesn't necessarily scream of laughter and fun when you think of it as a movie title.

Subtlety and ingenuity was needed here and judging by the end result, its clear that the translators pulled the shorter end of the stick. Ironically, by making balls and testicles a key part of the movie's marketing tactic the title turns out to be more laugh inducing than the film itself.
