10 Movie Trailers Released BEFORE FX Was Added

9. Star Wars: A New Hope

Avengers Endgame Tony Stark

The original trailer for Star Wars: A New Hope did a fantastic job showing off basically all of the movie's marquee elements - the cast, the unique characters, the tone, John Williams' iconic score, and of course, the splashy special effects.

But perhaps the most pivotal effect of all hadn't yet been completed by the time the trailer was put together - the lightsabers.

And so, the trailer instead shows Darth Vader (David Prowse) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) sparring with white fluorescent tubes rather than their final red and blue-hued laser swords.

Korean animator Nelson Shin was ultimately tasked with rotoscoping the desired colours onto the physical props, though back when this first trailer dropped, audiences clearly had no idea how iconic these neon tube-looking weapons would become.
