10 Movie Trailers That Don't Spoil ANYTHING

9. The Place Beyond The Pines

In The Place Beyond the Pines, a up-and-coming police officer called Avery tries to make a name for himself by going after a dangerous bank robber called Luke. With Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling playing the leads, fans were hoping to see the two having some great scenes together.

That may be what the trailer promised us but that's not what we got. The two actors share the screen together for one second! In their scene, Avery breaks into Luke's hideout and shoots him, causing to fall out of the window. Luke cracks his skull off the pavement and dies.

What's most bizarre is that this confrontation occurs 50 minutes into the movie. The story then skips ahead 15 years later and focuses on Avery's son befriending Luke's child, oblivious of their parents' connection.

Killing off the movie's biggest star halfway through was a ballsy move but it's a great way to subvert expectations since the audience has no idea where the story is going to go after Luke met his demise. Of course, not every viewer was happy with the decision to kill off Luke because, hey, who doesn't want to see more of Gosling?
