10 Movie Trailers That Don't Spoil ANYTHING
5. Cloverfield
In 2007, cinephiles were excited to finally see a live-action film adaptation of the 1980s cartoon, Transformers. But when the film finished, there was one question in the back of cinema-goers mind - what the hell was that trailer about just before the movie?
The teaser for Cloverfield starts off as a pretty boring and cheap-looking found-footage drama of a guy having a farewell party before leaving for Japan. Things take a dark turn when an explosion occurs in the city and an unseen behemoth hurls the head of the Statue of Liberty into the streets. The screen then cuts to black.
The trailer got everyone talking because people wanted to know what they just watched. What was this movie? Who's in it? When is it coming out? Is it a part of a franchise? Is it a Godzilla tie-in? How have I never heard of it?
Although there are several horror movies that don't reveal the big monster, Cloverfield did one better and didn't announce the title! This decision was a stroke of genius since it forced millions of people to scramble online trying to find out more out about this mysterious monster movie.
