10 Movie Trailers That Totally Lied To Audiences

5. Bridge to Terabithia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SvqEIKP4t8 When I saw the trailer for Bridge to Terabithia, I didn't expect much; it seemed like a standard, generic fantastic film that would get the kiddies and their parents in the cinema, make a modest profit, and then disappear into the DVD abyss. Trailers made it seem extremely uninspired, focusing on the CGI-laden fantasy elements, when in reality, the fantasy portion of the film is in fact a very minor aspect of the final feature. The film is in fact more a drama between two children, SPOILER ALERT one of whom is killed roughly half-way through the film during an accident, causing the other to have to come to terms with this. It makes for an unexpectedly resonant and moving film, but one which would have caught kids and their parents - as well as everyone else, to be honest - completely off-guard. We got a far better film in lieu, but there were no doubt countless angry parents marching out of the cinema that day, even if the book's fans were no doubt relieved that their precious story actually got an appropriate adaptation.
