As of this writing, three Marvel superheroes have had trilogies in the MCU: Iron Man, whose second and third films don't pop as well as they should; Thor, whose first two instalments are lacklustre at best; and, of course, Captain America (Chris Evans), whose adventurous, pitch-perfect trilogy forms the most consistent series of interconnected films in the entire franchise.

What makes the journey of Steve Rogers so good is how different each of the films are, yet how wonderfully they manage to work together: The First Avenger is a great superhero origin story, but also an exciting war picture; The Winter Soldier is a masterful spy thriller; and Civil War is a daring, franchise-defining crossover that changed the face of the series for years to come.

Add to this effortless juggling act the performances of Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson and RDJ, and what you have is the best trilogy in the MCU - and one Marvel are probably never going to top.
