10 Movie Trilogy Conclusions Fans Are Still Desperate To See

10. 28 ... Later

Danny Boyle revitalised the horror genre at the turn of the 21st century with 28 Days Later, depicting the rapid breakdown of society in the wake of a viral outbreak which transforms its victims into rabid, bloodthirsty beasts. Using small, easily portable digital cameras he was able to transform central London into a vividly desolate wasteland, finding time amongst the action to deliver political subtexts and human drama. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's sequel 28 Weeks Later got off to a fantastic start with a kinetic sequence in which Robert Carlyle narrowly escapes the infected as he flees a secluded farmhouse. The rest of the movie never quite matches this heart-stopping intro, but certainly boasts enough gore and atmosphere to recommend a watch. When can we expect the final instalment? 28 Months Later seems like the logical next step in the series, and talks regarding its production have been ongoing for some time. Alex Garland, who wrote the script for the original, confirmed earlier this year that he's written the story concept which producer Andrew MacDonald and Boyle are currently fleshing out. Dates regarding production or release have yet to be announced.
