7. Joaquin Phoenix In Talks To Play Doctor Strange

We've heard little about Phoenix's supposed talks to take on the role of the Sorcerer in Marvel's upcoming film directed by Scott Derrickson in the month or so since it came to light that the actor might be the frontrunner, but some sources have recently stated that he's within grasping distance of the cape and that an official announcement in the next few days is inevitable. There had previously been rumours that Jack Huston was another top contender for the role, but those appear to have been unfounded and we've heard nothing more about them since. Joaquin Phoenix is certainly a left-field choice to play a Marvel hero, but then again Doctor Strange is a pretty left-field kind of hero, and it'd be pretty hard to argue that the actor doesn't have the chops to pull off a performance as what is likely to be a tortured, enigmatic soul.
