5. Jack Black Keeping Things Comic In Goosebumps

When it was announced that Jack Black would be playing the author of the hugely popular Goosebumps series some believed that Tenacious D vocalist would be giving a more mature performance (not dissimilar to hi turn as the two-bit film director in the King Kong remake). However, last week Jack Black told Entertainment Weekly how the film following R. L. Stine will be far from a biopic:

"Even though I'm playing a real person, this is obviously a fictionalized version of his life and nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him, other than him writing all the books. So I felt like, I was just going to approach it as a character, doing what I thought was most dramatically interesting and right for what was needed ... I made more of a sort of curmudgeonly dark, brooding beast master. So from the very beginning, I was taking liberties. I think cool with it though. He's been on set and he actually did a little cameo."

From the sounds of it we can expect to see the over-the-top, exuberant Jack Black we've seen in films like Shallow Hal, School of Rock and Nacho Libre. We also now know to keep our eyes peeled for the cameo by the real R. L. Stine. The first stills from the film (scheduled for a 2015 release) were also made available recently, one of which is pictured above.
