Although Who Framed Roger Rabbit is ostensibly a kids film, blending live action and animation in a way few other flicks have been able to since, its story was surprisingly dark. About - what else - the framing of Roger Rabbit, the titular character teams up Eddie Valiant in order to clear his name and put an end to the murder of toons that's currently sweeping the city.

It doesn't take long for the duo to figure out that it's Judge Doom who's responsible. With the whole town under his control, the character seemingly resents each and every animated critter, played with the perfect mix of menace and zaniness by Christopher Lloyd. While his motivations are never in doubt however, it's unveiled, after being ran over by a steamroller and surviving no less, that the toons' biggest enemy is actually one himself.

Especially as a kid, trying to wrap your head around this twist raised so many questions, and it made one of the best baddies in a kids film even more terrifying.
