In this example, it's not necessarily an individual seeking eternal life, but an entire society. The year is 2019, the ozone layer is depleted, and the pollution-sick, filthy rich are stealing young people's bodies from the past in order to inhabit them.

In case this isn't sensational enough, the "bonejacker," or bounty hunter sent to 1991 to capture race car driver Emilio Estevez is played by Mick Jagger. Not even Sir Anthony Hopkins, who plays McCandless, Jagger's employer, could save the film from being a total flop upon release.

And this was just one year after Silence of the Lambs. Nonetheless, the concept of what people are capable of when they have the technological and class power is compelling. Hopkins' character may be the villain, but after all, he didn't create the state of things.

At least there's a happy ending: Jagger and Estevez's characters become pals, and The Mighty Ducks premiers only a few months later.
